Director of Structured Originations

Juan Mauricio serves as the Director of Structured Originations at AES Dominicana, where he leads the acquisition of new clients through customized energy solutions tailored to meet their specific needs. He is also responsible for designing and implementing strategies to optimize the value of AES Dominicana’s generation asset portfolio.

Juan joined AES in 2017 after a distinguished career in the Dominican commercial banking sector, where he began his professional journey. His extensive expertise in finance, risk management and commercial strategies has made him a key player in AES’ most transformational transactions in the Central America and Caribbean region. At AES, he initially worked in financial planning for the business in Panama before successfully taking on regional roles in Treasury and Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A). He later assumed a strategic position in the Dominican Republic, driving the growth of AES Dominicana’s client portfolio.

He holds a bachelor's degree in Economics from Utah State University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a concentration in Mathematics. He later earned a master’s degree in Financial Economics from the same institution, where he conducted research focused on the structure and efficiency of equity capital markets. His commitment to continuous learning has led him to obtain certifications in project financing, financial modeling and emerging technologies in the energy industry.

Dedicated to knowledge development, Juan has been a faculty member at Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE), teaching in the Business School. He has also published articles on economics and energy policy and designed an online course on project financing, distinguishing himself as a passionate advocate for learning and critical analysis in energy and finance topics.
