Strengthening innovative entrepreneurship in the Dominican Republic

The AES Dominicana Foundation and The Trust for the Americas, an affiliate of the Organization of American States (OAS), partnered for the “Strengthening Innovative Entrepreneurship” program to promote and incentivize local entrepreneurship in the municipalities of Boca Chica, Guayacanes, Quisqueya, Bancos de Arena and la Malena in the Dominican Republic.

More than 150 entrepreneurs spent two months training and studying the Canvas Business Model to acquire the tools needed to strengthen their business concepts. The project included an entrepreneurial fair where participants compete for funds by presenting their business plan to develop or expand their venture. The plans are evaluated by a panel of judges on various criteria, including financial viability, sustainability, creativity, innovation and coherence of their business model.

By increasing entrepreneurial skills of the people within each region, the project will contribute to the socio-economic and sustainable development of the local communities.

By providing participants and their associates with entrepreneurial tools and expertise that can be replicated within their communities, areas such as El Tunel in Boca Chica have been able to survive economically during the pandemic.
